Women seeking abortion procedures in the first trimester will find a competent and caring staff during their visit at ACWC.
Our state of the art surgery suite allows for patient comfort and confidentiality. Patients have the choice of General (asleep) or Local (awake) anesthesia during the procedure. Be mindful that the administration of anesthesia is based on your choice as well as your medical history to insure the safest procedure.
Upon admission you will have an ultrasound to determine the length of your pregnancy. The ultrasound is vital to insure the accuracy of the pregnancy termination procedure. After ultrasound you will have simple laboratory screening and RH blood typing. Blood typing is required to determine if your blood type is positive or negative. RH negative women are required to receive a Rhogam Injection. Rhogam is an additional fee.
Upon completion of these preoperative tests and your admission forms, you will be escorted to our OR Suite. Patients will be checked in by an OR staff member.
The ACWC will perform a first trimester surgical procedure from 6-14.0 weeks by the vacuum aspiration method. This method is the standard method of termination; it is a safe and uncomplicated procedure. The procedure involves the gradual widening of the cervix, followed by the insertion of a thin flexible tube attached to a vacuum aspirator which gently removes the contents of the uterus. The entire procedure will take 5-8 minutes and is performed by a Licensed Physician in the State of Georgia.
Patients who chose general anesthesia receive anesthesia from a Certified Nurse Anesthetist. You will not see or hear anything during the procedure.
Patients who chose Local anesthesia will be given preoperative medications to relax the patient and minimize discomfort during the procedure. A clinical staff member will be at your side supporting you throughout the procedure which takes about 5-8 minutes.
When your procedure is completed you will be transferred to the recovery room where you will be attended to by a Registered Nurse. Here your vital signs and post-operative assessment will be performed and you will be discharged with your After Care Booklet, RX’s and your chosen method of birth control (if you so choose). Your post-operative check-up can be done here at ACWC.
All patients who choose the Atlanta Center for Women's Choice find a responsive and caring atmosphere that is respectful, compassionate, and non-judgmental.
ACWC offers reduced fees for Medicaid Recipients, Full Time Students, US Military patients and family members.
